Shimer offers a Traditional Weekday Program, an Every Third Weekend Program for adults continuing their education, and accepts some students for Early Entrance.

Two-thirds of the Shimer Bachelor of Arts program consists of courses in our core

curriculum that immerses students in the major works, questions, and methods of 2000 years of the Western intellectual tradition. The other third of the curriculum consists of elective courses within particular fields. The study of classic texts, in discussion classes of 12 students or fewer, offers a uniquely rigorous and stimulating four-year liberal arts education.

The Weekday Program, a traditional four-year residential college experience, includes about two-thirds of our undergraduate students. The Weekend Program affords working adults the opportunity to pursue a Shimer education while continuing full-time employment. Shimer Weekend students attend fifteen weekends during the academic year, and can complete their degree requirements in four years or even less with transfer credit.

Both programs are accredited by the North Central Association: Higher Learning Commission.
